Like
last year and the
year before, I've spent the last few days out of Perth with Mr Bite's family. Six adults, three children and one dog in one house is a recipe for minor chaos, but it is chaos of a good for you, Australian, summery kind of way.
To finish off this year, here are some snaps of the calmer moments.

I think tee-pees are under-rated as outdoor accessories. |

Driving this road...is bliss. |

Scottish highland cattle are best photographed from behind a fence. |

The same applies to Australian emu. |

Happy New Year all!
beautiful photos! thanks for sharing. I spent several weeks in Australia in 2005, but not on the western side.
ReplyDeleteWe're a long way from the east, but maybe you can visit one day!
DeleteGreat place to enact the "practice photography" resolution! Happy 2014, Kari, and I hope your year is as beautiful as your last few days seem to have been :)
ReplyDeleteI thought so too (re. the photography) ;) Thanks Theresa!
DeleteHappy New Year, Kari! I've enjoyed following your journey this past year and look forward to seeing what life has in store for you! Lovely photos. They sure do calm my soul.
ReplyDeleteThank you Min! Happy New Year to you too :)
DeleteHappy New Year! Thanks for the beautiful pics : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna!
DeleteBeautiful photography, as always! Happy New Year, and thanks for a fascinating year of blogging.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Catherine...I feel obliged to note that the less beautiful photos don't get blogged ;)
DeleteNaturally not! Though I'm in a sort of picture-watching phase at present, because I'm thinking about buying a proper camera (as opposed to using my iPhone for all my photographic needs), so I'm noticing these things more than usual...
DeleteAh, exciting! Also, perhaps, overwhelming. I found it a very difficult decision to make when buying my camera (a Sony NEX C3) and I suspect even more choices are available now. I think that the decisions end up being between tiny features though, so probably whatever one choices, it's going to be a good outcome :)
DeleteI've never been to Western Australia and it's on my wish list. I want to go along the coast and my other dream is to take the Ghan from Adelaide.
ReplyDeleteYour photos make me want to go sooner rather than later.
Happy New Year and may 2014 be your best year ever.
The Ghan from Adelaide would be a great way to bypass some long, desert driving stretches! Once you get here there's lots to see though so I hope your visit is sooner rather than later too!
DeleteHappy New Year to you too Maureen :)
Happy New Year! Hope the chaos is fun and the peaceful moments are plentiful.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a perfect recipe for life I think! Thanks Lisa :)
DeleteYour angle makes the emu look small and almost cuddly. NOT A TRUE REPRESENTATION OF AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Bahaha...definitely true. But then, a true representation might have left me injured!
DeleteI've never been to Margaret River but would very much like to visit. How beautiful it all looks and I would love to drive along that road. Enjoy your chaotic holiday - I've been on a few of those and know exactly what they're like! Happy New Year, Kari, to you and all your family xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Charlie, and I hope you make it to Margaret River one day because I think you'd love it. Lots of wonderful wineries and good food! I'm home to peace and quiet now but the chaos was a rollercoaster of fun while it lasted ;)
DeleteGorgeous images, and so peaceful!
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy New Year!
Thank you!
DeleteOh crazy times wtih the inlaws...always fun. :P Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteTeehee ;) Thanks, and you too!
Deletelooks gorgeous - glad you are getting some nice rest before embarking on what sounds like a huge year for you. those beaches look gorgeous but very rocky - do you go swimming in them or are there sandier beaches nearby where you swim?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely rocky! They are not very safe for swimming and signs warn people off, but some people do brave them and sadly some end up lost. Mostly, they are surfing beaches or just for admiring. There are sandier and calmer beaches scattered at regular intervals for swimming, but I'll confess to not swimming at all on this holiday. We had delightful high 20s weather that I am soaking up, and I didn't feel the need to get wet!
