Loving this week {March 2013}

I am linking this into cityhippyfarmgirl's 'loving this week' post for March. It's a little late, but I blame Easter!

The 'loving'this week' posts are all about the little moments in your days and weeks that have tickled your heart.


 Loving...memories of Beelu National Park, where we walked a 9km loop on Good Friday.



Loving...a four-day work week.
Loving...a newly replanted garden, and moving on from the heat-related death of my vegetables over summer.

Left: Plants pre-Christmas 2012 (note the healthy corn at the back...).
Centre and right: Plants at the end of December 2012. They never recovered.

Now: New flowers, and new patches of herbs.

Basil and parsley.

Chives, mint and oregano.


Marigold the snail (a wedding present).


Loving...a healthy looking lemon tree, even if it is yet to produce actual fruit.




Loving...these Easter leftovers for work lunches.

    Wonderful Kari, lots of things to love in here. Your lemon tree especially. I still need to choose a tree for a particular pot I have and I really would love a citrus, just scaredy pants I won't keep it alive.

      I have found mine to be quite robust - certainly easier to keep alive than the vegetables! I'm getting a bit scaredy pants I'll never have any actual lemons though...

    Love the pics of your garden. Im busy planting up a whole bunch of stuff right now too, and pulling out plants that didn't survive the Sydney heat waves. Next task is planting some bulbs as the weather cools. It looks like you had a very healthy Good Friday!

      I've always been wary of bulbs, so am impressed by your plans to plant those. And I'm a little bit glad I'm not the only one to fail to keep their gardens alive over summer!

    That park looks beautiful! Your leftovers look yummy too. I love leftovers....makes dinner during a busy week so much easier.

    Right now I am just excited that I get to go on vacation starting tomorrow. I need a break from reality right now :-)

      I'm super excited about your break too, your last few weeks have sounded extraordinarily busy and tiring. I hope it is fantastic! And yes - leftovers are my salvation during busy weeks :)

    Wow, Kari! It sure looks like you had a lovely week! I can't wait to see your herbs and flowers blossom! Of course, can't forget the cute lemon tree ^^. You must take a picture when it produces its first fruit and share with us all. My week has not been so lovely. It's been raining nonstop and I've been stuck inside writing research papers..never ending. Just one more month...I can do it!

    looks like a lovely week - I am excited about better weather for the garden - unfortunately it is the weeds that are mostly thriving right now :-( but there are some buds on the camelia tree and I am still waiting for our limes to ripen - our lemon tree did well for a bit but is not happy this year. And you fill me with a yen to go bushwalking - looks gorgeous

      I think I'd like to bushwalk weekly, if only it was possible. My soul takes deeper breaths amongst trees. Hopefully cooler weather will allow you to shift the weed / plant balance! I think that is one advantage of having mostly pots, the weeds don't get as much of a look in as if we had a proper garden.

      I agree though we still get some pesky weeds in our pots but most weeds are in the front yard where there are garden beds rather than concrete

      I'm so excited you have somewhere to plant things now! It is really fun :) I've been on a massive learning curve that is still going sharply up, but it's a fun one.

    Love your photos of Beelu National Park - is that close to John Forrest National Park? We did a scenic drive through there on our way from Kalgoorlie.

    I hope you have better success with your winter garden and that those buds on your tree bring you plenty of lemons! We have been busy for the last few weekends organising vegetable beds and planting seeds which are now sprouting - exciting times lie ahead! Marigold is very cute...

      It is indeed close to John Forrest National Park - you're an expert on WA parks now ;) You drive past John Forrest National Park on the way in to Mundaring and then this is just past Mundaring, near the weir. It is off the road to Kalgoorlie :-)

      Exciting times indeed with your garden starting to sprout! I hope mine takes off soon, I could do with some reinforcement after months of dead plants...

    I adore all of your little potted plants. I seem to kill plants - the only thing I have managed to keep alive lately is a chive plant that I have had for around 18 months - a record for me Gorgeous photos!

      I planted chive so hopefully mine will prove to be hardy too! I am feeling in need of some renewed gardening confidence after the challenges of summer.
