Loving this week {January 2013}

I am linking this into cityhippyfarmgirl's 'loving this week' post for January. Her 'loving' posts are about the little moments in your days and weeks that have tickled your heart.

Here are my recent loves for January.

Agapanthus on my walk to work.

Pink smoothies from frozen watermelon (also pineapple, rockmelon, banana and almond milk).

Les Misérables, again! With Mr Bite!

Who ever knew that would happen?

After much convincing, Mr B accepted this might be one musical he really should see. I watched it a second time with acute awareness of all the things he might not like (but still loved it myself), so was relieved when he gave it a 7.5 / 10 rating. The earlier scenes were deemed "slow", but the latter half with barricade excitement made the film scrape through as acceptable overall.

Groupon present deliveries, thanks to the Groupon voucher I won late last year from Cassandra at Food is my Friend (thanks again Cass!).

My new items include a cake / icing decorating set (complete with letter stencils) and a measuring bowl that does volume as well as weight.

The best vanilla frozen yoghurt ever.

This isn't vegan, but it is really, really good. It has the tartness of natural yoghurt with the sweetness of vanilla, and it is hands down the best 'hard' frozen yoghurt (not soft serve) that I've had.

Lemon juice in water.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to catch on to this. I'm not concerned with the putative health benefits, but love it for the taste!

What are you loving this week?

  1. I'm loving the spontaneous days of beautiful weather that have been occurring randomly in Kansas City. I'm loving sugarless, but totally sweet, homemade brownies. I'm loving kicking back on the front porch with my friends and talking/laughing until 3am.

That smoothie looks TO DIE FOR. Oh, I can't wait for summer in the Midwest, because then I will have watermelon again, and I will be so happy!

  2. Thanks for linking up lovely! And I'm loving these things too. Cake decorating kit looks the business, (now what kind of cake is first to step up and get decorated?
The boys had their first frozen yogurts last week and were clapping their hands with glee at the taste...the simple things :-)

I love the thought of your boys experiencing first time frozen yoghurt glee! What a gorgeous experience for them, and for you to watch.

    1. Thanks Teri! And whilst frozen watermelon may not suit frozen temperatures, it is really delicious when it's warm enough for it :-)

  5. I love lemon juice in my water too! It is really good. Your smoothie looks really good. I have never used watermelon before, but I love it so maybe I need to try it. Not sure if we have watermelon in our stores right now. Might have to wait. :-)

    1. Mm, I guess it is a very summer-specific fruit! It is great frozen and then in smoothies though - I haven't tried it fresh, but frozen it makes it both thick and sweet, which I love.

  6. Glad you're finally on the lemon in water train. :)

Yes for Les Mis!!!! I've seen in twice two (plus once on stage). My partner, however, has seen it on stage over five times! He's more obsessed than me!

I can't wait to try watermelon in a smoothie when it gets warm out over here! Yum!

  7. That's great you saw Les Mis - I felt a bit the same way when I took E along but he loved it - mostly. Your cake decorating kit looks exciting - will look forward to seeing what you do with it. And I love your agapanthas - we always had them around in the garden as a kid so I thought them boring but I appreciate them far more now.

    1. I always thought agapanthas were really hard to grow, but recently I read an article saying they were easy, so now I'm considering planting some myself (when it cools down a bit anyway). It's funny how things are less exciting when they are familiar and seem special when they appear out of reach!

  8. Oh man, you've reminded me that I haven't been having my hot AVC/water/stevia drink since moving to my new sublet! I wonder how weird my new colleagues will think I am if I keep a bottle of vinegar on my desk... ;)

    1. I say let them in on the weirdness early, so they have time to adjust over the course of your internship ;)

  12. I had to LOL at your discovery of lemon in water. It is pretty good, but my recent favourite is cucumber slices in water. I put a handful of cuke slices in a jug, and get a few fills out of the veggies before I tip them, and the water is just so refreshing :)
