We have had a few outings in the Perth area recently. Last Sunday was our one year wedding anniversary (thanks for all the congratulations!) but it was also Father's Day. During the day, we visited Whiteman Park with family.

I hadn't been to Whiteman Park since I was a child, and I had forgotten how big it is. There are picnic areas, walk trails, bush land, playgrounds, and railway/transport features spanning 7000 hectares in total. The railway and transport features stem from the Park being home to much Western Australian transport heritage. There is a motor museum, a tractor museum, a tram around the grounds, and a railway around the grounds.

Some of the amenities within Whiteman Park (like the train, tram and museums) things have associated costs, but the park itself is free. It's only about 30 minutes north of the city centre, so it's a great resource and there were plenty of families about on Father's Day.
Today, we then extended our anniversary by re-visiting Araluen Botanic Park, which is where we were married last year. Araluen is beautiful year round but in September, it is tulip season.

Stunning, aren't they? I wish I could craft a garden like that, even if the flowers were only in season for a short time each year!
We admired the tulips, and then the area we had our ceremony last year...
...as well as the set up for another couple, who were exchanging their own vows today.

Playing to a modest crowd, there was even a band in one corner of the park. We never did work out why, or for what occasion, but we enjoyed listening to their pieces as we wandered around.

ReplyDeleteand what is it about little baby ducks, er ducklings that makes you go...oh cuuuute! They really are little balls of lovely fluff.
I think it's ingrained biologically - we like small things so we procreate and make them ;) Not quite sure why we love ducklings so much under that theory, but I figure we can only accept it and go with the oh cuuuuute response!

DeleteHappy belated 1 year anniversary!! What a great idea to visit the very place you guys said "I do!" It's odd to think that spring is just around the corner for you. I'm hoping that the weather will cool off here soon. Those tulips are gorgeous!!
