About me
Welcome! Thanks so much for stopping by. Bite-Sized Thoughts is an ever evolving site and whilst it focuses primarily on plant-based eating, there are many posts that reflect my broader interests. These include running, books, outings and outdoor walks, holidays, and general life events.
I am currently living in the south-east of England with my husband, Mr Bite, and daughter, Mini Bite. We moved from Australia to London in 2014 and down into Kent in 2015.

On food and eating
Eating non-animal products most of the time appeals to me for health, environmental and ethical reasons. I haven't eaten red meat since my teenage years, and stopped eating poultry in early 2010. In 2012 I seemed to stop eating fish, as an extension of my growing interest in food ethics and environmentally sustainable eating (I do think fish is a food with health benefits, so it is one area where my views on health and views on ethical/environmental eating clash). I am fully vegan at home, but will occasionally have dairy or eggs if travelling or eating food prepared by others.
Of late, I have come to prefer the term 'plant based' to 'vegan' or 'vegetarian'. Plant based places the emphasis what you do eat, not what you don't. It is also a term that encourages flexibility: plant based, not plants only.
On exercise and fitness
As a child you would generally find me reading or climbing a tree, and I retain bookworm and tomboy-ish tendencies to this day. I value exercise and fitness greatly, and am a much happier person when exercise is part of my days. I love running in particular and have run several half marathons. Posts in those areas are summarised on my running page.
The food processor is my favourite kitchen appliance too! Nice to find another Aussie blogger :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you too Lou :D
DeleteHi, Kari (and Mr. Bite)! =).
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool that you live in Australia! I have yet to visit.
It seems we have a lot in common =).
I can't imagine my life w/o my Vitamix (which acts as a food processor and juicer)! And I'm obsessed with dateballs!! Nom Nom Nom!!!
I CANNOT catch a ball to save my life..But I can run like nobody's business.
Nobody knows about my life as a blogger except for my husband and sis, and I'd like to keep it that way. I kill any and every plant that I get a hold of, so now I try to stay ways from them. I just upgraded to a DSLR, and I'm planning to take some photography classes!
At times, thanks to my perfectionism, OCD tendencies grab a strong hold of me =(. I'm working on letting go and allowing Christ to lead me through this journey called life!
It sounds like we have lots in common Min :) Thanks so much for stopping by.
DeleteHiya!! Thanks so much for your lovely comment!! I'm so glad to meet another Aussie Sweat Pink Ambassador although it seems you'll be leaving our shores pretty soon! I love your philosophy to food and exercise and will have a look around :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully find more ways to use my food processor lol :)
Thanks Sig, I was really excited to find another Australian Sweat Pink ambassador too! I'll be around for at least another year or two, so there'll be two of us for at least that long (and no doubt more before I leave anyway!).
DeleteWow, I could have written this myself! Diet, exercise philosophy, even the PhD (although I'm a few weeks away from submitting, so it doesn't count yet). So happy to stumble across your blog! Love your pictures of the South West - that's where I live!
ReplyDeleteOh, how exciting! I'm thrilled to 'meet' another West Australian - thanks so much for your comment. Congratulations, too, on nearly submitting your PhD. I hope you celebrate hard when you do hand it in :)
DeleteHi Kari, I stumbled across your blog a few months ago and though I don't follow many blogs, yours is by far my fav. I thought I should 'out' myself as I wanted to thank you for all the inspiring recipes you so generously share. I am in Sydney and I have a British passport (my Dad is a Pom), but I have never understood the desire by some Aussies to live in London. Each to his own I guess. When you leave our shores in 2014 it will be Australia's loss and England's gain. Thankfully though, I can follow your blog wherever you may roam!
ReplyDeleteJakki
Thank you so much Jakki. I really appreciate your comment and am thrilled to find another Australian reader (even if I do have desires to move to England!) :)
DeleteThis comment of yours I can soooooooooooo relate to!!!! "I'm not naturally a happy-go-lucky sort of person, and tendencies towards perfectionism and worry can sometimes make me my own worst enemy."
ReplyDeleteOh dear - I think you just described me perfectly ;-)
I'm sorry to find a fellow worrier, but it's always nice to know there are like-minded people out there! Thanks for the comment Sandy.
DeleteHey Kari, I just came over from Cass' blog Food is my Friend. I love to discover new bloggers, especially when that blogger is on the other side of the world! I live in South Florida (USA) where it is dang hot in the summer, so I hear you on the heat. I look forward to reading more from you.
ReplyDeleteI saw you mentioned on Cass' blog and have been meaning to check out your site - I love that we share a name :-) I'm about to head over; thanks so much for stopping by.
DeleteHi Kari, I've just discovered your blog and it's lovely to meet another West Australian blogger. Your writing is beautifully honest and inspiring... thanks for sharing your recipes, thoughts and dreams with the rest of the world (even if it was initially intended as a private project!). A few of us Perth food bloggers are thinking of planning a 'meet and greet' type breakfast or something similar in the coming months. Would you be interested? Either way, it's lovely to discover your corner of the internet. I'll definitely be checking back in with you :)
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, thanks so much for stopping by! I am also delighted to discover another West Australian blogger :) I think the idea of a Perth catch up is lovely and would certainly be interested in hearing about it. Thanks!
